A sneak peek at what our podcast team are backing for Saturday’s ITV races from Sandown and Haydock.
More Group 1 racing this weekend in the form of the Coral Eclipse. Just the four going to post, which is disappointing, but at least three of the main contenders at the entry stage are lining up, meaning it’s 2.5 the field at the time of recording. The supporting races are the more appealing betting heats in truth.
Coral Eclipse (15:35 Sandown)
Team Mishriff here at the prices for all nobody is recommending a max bet. If he doesn’t go off the favourite, I’d argue that’s plain wrong for all he must give St Mark’s Basilica weight. Solid option.
- Sam – Mishriff
- Steve – Mishriff
- Deasy – Mishriff
- Tom – Mishriff
Sprint Stakes (13:50 Sandown)
Best bet here for Deasy with Keep Busy at 7.0 at the time of recording. Steve and I like Atalis Bay, given 3-year-olds have a good record in this. Sam wants a couple on side – small-stakes win and place.
- Sam – Lazuli / Came From The Dark
- Steve – Atalis Bay
- Deasy – Keep Busy BEST BET
- Tom – Atalis Bay / Ainsdale
1m 6f Handicap (14:05 Haydock)
A tricky but excellent race and Deasy thinks the current favourite is the one to side with. I’d rather back the second in the betting (though not against the favourite per see), and Steve is in the same camp. Sam is most confident of all with Tashkhan, 15.0 at the time of recording.
- Sam – Tashkhan BEST BET
- Steve – Harlem Soul
- Deasy – Dhushan
- Tom – Harlem Soul / Auriferous

Challenge Handicap (14:25 Sandown)
Sam makes a strong case for last year’s winner at 6.5. I’m sticking with two Mark Johnston horses in the hope that you don’t want to be too far back here, while Deasy has one at an appealing price at the time of recording (17.0).
- Sam – Montatham
- Steve – Ransom
- Deasy – Plantadream
- Tom – Maries Diamond / Maydanny
Lancashire Oaks (14:40 Haydock)
Steve and Deasy like Henry Candy’s filly, and Deasy is also chancing one at a big price. Sam goes for the market leader for all she’s not max bet material.
- Sam – Alpanista
- Steve – La Lune
- Deasy – La Lune / Bharani Star
- Tom – Mystery Angel
Distaff (15:00 Sandown)
I can’t find a play here, and it’d be the least exciting betting heat of the day for the team. Both Sam and Steve are positive about Statement, Steve more so, and Sam also flags one win and place. Deasy goes for both Haggas runners.
- Sam – Auria
- Steve – Statement
- Deasy – Ready To Venture / Aunty Bridy
- Tom – No bet
Old Newton Cup (15:15 Haydock)
Great betting race, and my best bet lines up here win and place. Sam and Deasy are positive about Alan King’s Epsom winner at the prices, and Steve is firm on Aaddeey. Lots of chances…
- Sam – Midnights Legacy
- Steve – Aaddeey / Classical Wave
- Deasy – Longsider / Midnights Legacy
- Tom – Zabeel Champion BEST BET / My Frankel
Steve’s weekend BEST BET – Classical Wave (16:10 Sandown)
Best of luck!
