Tom Stanley gives you a sneak peek at what he and Steve Jones are backing for Friday’s features at Newmarket.
More Group 1 racing on the way, and Friday’s Falmouth Stakes is an excellent renewal.
I’m expecting quick ground and, with not much pace on, want a filly who will be on the speed and who stays further, or at least should do.
Some excellent betting races this weekend, and keep an eye out for Saturday’s podcast and column, which features, amongst other races, a belting July Cup.
Falmouth Stakes (15:35 Newmarket)
We agree! Steve would split stakes 70% the win and 30% the place, whereas I’d go the other way around. Saffron Beach is considered way overpriced at 15.0 at the time of recording.

Duchess Of Cambridge (14:25 Newmarket)
Steve is going for a big price here, and I’m nearly with him. Desert Dreamer is 13.0 at the time of recording. I’m looking to Hello You to reverse form with her Ascot conqueror and think there’s too much between them at the prices.
- Steve – Desert Dreamer
- Tom – Hello You

1m 6f Handicap (15:00 Newmarket)
Two onside for each of us here. Both of us agree on the potential lack of pace, so any short-priced hold-up horses may be worth avoiding—some decent priced selections between us.
- Steve – Hochfeld / Hyanna
- Tom – Rajinsky / Lostwithiel
Best of luck!
