Tips From The King George & Saturday's Other Feature Races From Ascot & York

Plenty of winners on our Racing podcast last week; needless to say, our team are looking to keep the good times rolling this weekend!

More Group 1 action this weekend in the form of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

It’s the race where the all age, all sex middle-distance horses take each other on and great, we’ve got a Derby winner in there.

Adayar getting weight from last year’s Oaks winner, Love, makes it a fascinating contest, for all we’ve just the six runners.

The weather will be key. Adayar may want some dig, whereas Love is probably better suited to top of the ground. And Wonderful Tonight definitely comes into play if the heavens open.

There are some big field handicaps to get stuck into too…

King George (15:35 Ascot)

I’m waiting for the weather to see who to side with but will stick with Love if it stays dry. Steve and Deasy are with her, and Steve also thinks Lone Eagle is a play from the front. Sam gives the Derby winner the vote at the prices.

  • Sam – Adayar
  • Steve – Love/Lone Eagle
  • Deasy – Love
  • Tom – No Bet

Princess Margaret (13:50 Ascot)

All in on Desert Dreamer here, and Steve makes her his best bet. She has been unlucky on her last two starts and must have a great chance of going one better if avoiding trouble in running. Deasy is also siding with 21.0 shot El Hadeeyah win and place.

  • Sam – Desert Dreamer
  • Steve – Desert Dreamer BEST BET
  • Deasy – Desert Dreamer / El Hadeeyah
  • Tom – Desert Dreamer

Jump Jockeys’ Nunthorpe (14:05 York)

It’s an odd race by nature, but Sam’s best bet lines up here under Daryl Jacob. A couple at reasonable prices, particularly Eeh Bah Gum, are being put up by Steve, and I’m siding with Tom Scudamore as a rider who has won this from the front before.

  • Sam – Ventura Express BEST BET
  • Steve – Eeh Bah Gum / Nibras Again
  • Deasy – No bet
  • Tom – Soul Seeker

Porsche Handicap (14:25 Ascot)

Both Deasy and I think Guru will reverse form with Isla Kai on the straight track here, but Sam is sticking with the latter. Steve makes a strong case for the progressive Marsabit under Hollie Doyle.

  • Sam – Isla Kai
  • Steve – Marsabit
  • Deasy – Guru
  • Tom – Guru

Dash Handicap (14:40 York)

A very open race, but the consensus is the pace is low (far side), and that’s certainly where I’m looking with one at a big price. Deasy and Steve make a strong case for Streamline while Sam is tentative in going for Music Society.

  • Sam – Music Society
  • Steve – Streamline
  • Deasy – Streamline
  • Tom – Typhoon Ten

15:00 Ascot – International Stakes

A couple of best bets going up here in the form of Motakhayyel for Deasy and Raising Sand for me. According to Deasy and Sam, the favourite should be hard to beat (as long as the ground doesn’t get testing, according to Deasy and Sam), and I fancy Saffie Osbourne has a great chance on her course lover. Steve’s selection, Ropey Guest, is 26.0 at the time of recording.

  • Sam – Tomfre / Motakhayyel if ground good or better
  • Steve – Ropey Guest
  • Deasy – Motakhayyel BEST BET
  • Tom – Cliffs Of Capri / Raising Sand BEST BET

York Stakes (15:15 York)

Again I’m on the fence here. Mohaafeth looks the potential star quality, but I’m never too confident about short favourites at York. No such concerns for Steve and Deasy, while Sam thinks Armory’s record is a little underestimated.

  • Sam – Armory
  • Steve – Mohaafeth
  • Deasy – Mohaafeth
  • Tom – No bet
