Fresh from his Tyson Fury KO tip, Ryan Cahill returns with a strong shout in Taylor vs Serrano
It will be a momentous occasion for Women’s boxing on Sunday morning as we see two pioneers of the sport do battle at the Iconic Madison Square Garden.
In what is potentially the biggest Women’s Boxing fight of all time in the early hours of Sunday morning as Ireland’s Olympic hero Katie Taylor (20-0, 6KO’s) takes on the dangerous Puerto Rican southpaw Amanda Serrano (42-1-1 30KO’s).
All four major world titles are on the line, leaving the winner as the world’s undisputed champion and arguably the most decorated woman to ever lace up a pair of gloves.
It is no surprise that this is a close betting heat with Serrano, the current slight favourite, trading at around 1.86 at the time of writing.
Interestingly, It will be the first time in her pro career that the Undisputed Lightweight champ Taylor will enter the ring as an underdog come fight night.
Stylistically, it is sure to be an intriguing fight; Taylor is undoubtedly the better technician.
She possesses fast hands and a remarkable ability to get in and out of range.
Serrano is the bigger woman in stature and is, without doubt, the harder hitter of the two, having not needed the final bell in 30 of her 42 wins.
I also feel Serrano is the fresher fighter here, perhaps strange given she has 44 pro bouts compared to Taylor’s 20.
Taylor, however, had a remarkable yet gruelling amateur career having even fought Ireland’s first officially sanctioned female boxing match when she was 15!

Breaking down the fight from a betting perspective and trying to find value, I can’t get away from Serrano’s price here.
I feel the value lies with the Puerto Rican at 1.86.
Taylor is a fast starter, and I would expect her to look good early on here, but we have seen her look ragged and worn down as fights have gone on, most notably against Delfine Persoon in both their fights; Taylor ultimately prevailed on both occasions but both decisions were controversial with many of the view the Belgian had done enough.
Taylor struggles with size and physicality, and I feel that is something that Serrano has in spades.
I would, however, be surprised if this did not see the final bell.
Only 10×2 minute rounds compared to 12×3 in the men’s game by nature leads to fewer finishes.
Both women are far from liabilities defensively and have shown the grit and heart needed to operate at this level. Given I feel the fight goes the distance and Taylor may start well early here, I am also inclined to have a small play on the draw, which can be had at 15.5. Looping back around to the controversial decisions in both Persoon fights, Taylor has a style that can persuade a judge.
Despite the fight being in New York, Taylor should also hold a home advantage with a strong Irish boxing presence in the Big Apple and being the Matchroom star on an Eddie Hearn card.
