The Open Championship 2023 Preview

The 151st Open Championship gets underway on Thursday morning from the Royal Liverpool Golf Club as the best golfers in the world will head to the Lancashire coast for another iteration of the storied Major.

The Scottish Open concluded on Sunday, and it was great to see the world’s best players on show in Scotland, a week before the Open Championship.

Rory McIlroy impressively took the title despite a rough start Thursday morning where he hit as high as 16.0 after bogeying the 2nd hole, but it was smoother sailing from there on for the Holywood native. He battled local favourite Robert McIntyre and the Scottish elements to take the title with a clutch birdie down the 72nd hole.

He has now been cut to 9.4 on the Matchbook Exchange to win the Open Championship, having been backed at a high of 10.0 prior to the start of the Scottish Open.

That makes him the current joint fav to win his first major since 2014, funnily enough, that major win was on this exact course. You would have been given a big price back then for the Northern Irishman to strike a blank in the majors for the following 9 years.

Alongside him in the betting is World Number 1 and 2022 Masters Champion Scottie Scheffler, who continued his remarkable run of top-10 finishes at The Renaissance Club. He closed out on -10, which was good enough for a share of 3rd place.

On the Matchbook Exchange, our golf liquidity is stronger than ever, but we also have the Brokerage Service, which enables customers to strike bets for larger sizes than what is available on the Exchange.

For the Open Championship, our layers have committed to quoting any golfer to win up to £1M!

Do you fancy Rory McIlroy to complete the double? On the Brokerage front, we are even able to request each-way terms on golfers for large stakes or quote on tournament match-ups or special markets.

For the serious punter who struggles to get on, have you checked out Matchbook lately?
