Wycombe v Swindon

Tuesday 13th February 2018 (19:45)

Last Tuesday we profited from a goal-heavy game involving Swindon Town on their travels and seven days later there’s no reason not to follow suit as the Robins make a relatively short journey to Wycombe Wanderers.

Swindon suffered a 2-1 reverse at high-flying Accrington a week ago but David Flitcroft’s charges bounced back to overcome promotion rivals Mansfield 1-0 at their Country Ground base last time out.

Matt Taylor finished off a wonderful team goal from a swift Swindon counter-attack to end Mansfield’s nine-match unbeaten run in League Two with the Robins leapfrogging the Stags in the process. Now Flitcroft’s men continue their tough recent schedule with a trip to Buckinghamshire.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth picked up January’s Manager of the Month award after guiding the Chairboys into the automatic promotion places with four victories from four, including a thrilling 3-2 triumph at table-topping Luton.

Wanderers made it five wins on the spin with a memorable come-from-behind success against Carlisle (4-3) last weekend before holding top-seven rivals Exeter to an entertaining 1-1 draw in Devon on Saturday.

With only Luton scoring more league goals than Wycombe throughout the whole of the Football League, the hosts are well-equipped to hurt opposition defences. However, the hosts have struggled to keep their own back door locked this term.

Indeed, Wycombe have scored in all bar six of their League Two outings in 2017/18 but with only seven clean sheets kept, high-scoring encounters have become the norm for Chairboys’ supporters. Fixtures are averaging 3.35 goals per-game with 22/31 (71%) crossing the Over 2.5 Goals line.

No fourth-tier team has fired in more shots on-target than Wanderers with the Buckinghamshire boys seeing a massive 16/31 (52%) of matches even crossing the Over 3.5 Goals barrier and 22 (71%) featuring both sides scoring.

With such overwhelming goal trends in our favour, a play on Over 2.5 Goals has to be advised at the available 1.88.

Despite winning just once in four away days (W1-D1-L2), Swindon still comfortably boast the division’s best road record and the Wiltshire raiders have been regular profit-makers in the Over 2.5 Goals market when travelling to fellow League Two teams.

In fact, putting the two teams’ home/away records together, Over 2.5 Goals has combined for 24/31 (77%) winning selections with 20/31 (65%) seeing both sides score. Considering a bulky 13/31 (42%) produced four or more goals, backing a goal-heavy game holds plenty of appeal on Tuesday night.
