Valero Texas Open Matchup Bets

One week out from the Masters, and while all golf fans have one eye towards Augusta, Messrs Mazzola and Molitor are of the opinion that some of the field at the Texas Open may be of a similar mindset.

The Greg Norman designed TPC San Antonio is notoriously tilted towards players who are quality ball-strikers, especially those who are strong off the tee. Hence why the guys are not touching the outright favourite Jordon Spieth this week!

We skipped the Dell Matchplay last week but the guys had a solid week at the Honda Classic the week prior with six winners from eight selections. James had a clean sweep of 4 winners while Andy also nailed his best bet (Keegan Bradley to beat Wyndham Clark) so the wind is most definitely in their collective sails as we head to Texas.

Keegan Bradley to beat Matt Kuchar

1.92 / -109 (Andy)

Back to the well with Keegan this week for Andy! This however is as much a fade of Kuchar who may be suffering some fatigue from the Matchplay last week while James also gives this one a vote of confidence.

Ryan Moore to beat Rickie Fowler

1.78 / -128 (James)

James targeted Rickie successfully at the Honda and it’s ‘wash, rinse & repeat’ this week.

Harold Varner to beat Adam Hadwin

1.89 / -112 (Andy)

While worried about the potential of winds in San Antonio, Varner’s superior ball-striking makes him a must-play for Andy here.

Doug Ghim to beat Adam Long

1.83 / -120 (James)

James makes Ghim much closer to a 1.7 shot here so he’s more than happy to take this amount of an edge in this one:

Cameron Percy to beat Brian Stuard

1.72 / -139 (Andy)

Andy is very much not buying into a semi-strong showing from Stuard in the Dominican Republic last weekend while making the case that Cameron Percy’s sneaky-good iron play will get the job done here.

Harry Higgs to beat Cameron Champ

1.94 / -106 (Best Bet James)

Champ’s putting is so bad that this makes him a risk to miss the cut every week while James expects Higgs to have a strong showing this week making him a live outsider shot in the outright:

Matt Wallace to beat Danny Willett

1.88 / -114 (Best Bet Andy)

An all-English matchup here and Andy is most keen to take on the former Masters champ here:

Sam Burns to beat Joel Dahmen

1.75 / -106 (James)

Joel Dahmen’s win in the Dominican Republic is holding no weight with James here.
