Tom Stanley summarises the podcast bets from Steve Jones and Charlie Posts as the guys cover 11 races on ITV Saturday…

Marathon this week with 11 races covered.

The Shergar Cup has some interesting betting heats but fair to say, given the nature of the meeting, no maximum bets at Ascot.

We start with a less exciting betting race, perhaps, but it’s a fascinating renewal of the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes.

16:15 Curragh – Keeneland Phoenix Stakes Group 1

My issue is that I want to back Bradsell, but he’s currently favourite, and I hoped he’d be a more tempting price. He’s the shout of Charlie given his Ascot run and how well that form is working out.

  • Charlie – Bradsell

13:35 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Classified Stakes

Steve and I are against Orbaan back in trip. He was very good last time, but he doesn’t make a habit of winning. Steve would rather back Divine Magic whilst Charlie is with last time out course winner Epsom Faithful.

  • Tom – Lay Orbaan
  • Steve – Divine Magic
  • Charlie – Epsom Faithful

14:10 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash Handicap

Arecibo is back in a handicap and worth support at a track he goes well at. Steve likes King Of Stars but the jockey booking has just worried him a little. Charlie will back Manacan who was a little unlucky at Chester last time and this track should suit better.

  • Tom – Arecibo
  • Steve – King Of Stars
  • Charlie – Manacan

14:25 Haydock – London Mile Series Qualifier Handicap

The consistent La Trinidad for Charlie whilst Steve likes the progressive Electrical Storm. He makes a pretty strong case for Saeed Bin Suroor’s horse back over a mile. I like Young Fire, who has run some solid races without getting the breaks.

  • Tom – Young Fire
  • Steve – Electrical Storm
  • Charlie – La Trinidad

14:45 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers Handicap

Super Superjack is backing up quickly after his good run at Goodwood. He didn’t get the breaks that day but this should suit a good bit better and he’s the standout at the top of the market.

  • Tom – Super Superjack
  • Steve – Super Superjack
  • Charlie – No bet

15:00 Haydock – Rose Of Lancaster Stakes Group 3

Best bet material for Charlie and I in the form of Grocer Jack. He took the field apart at Newbury and should be too good for these. Steve isn’t overly taken with the form, though and thinks the progressive Intollogent rates a safer bet.

  • Tom – Grocer Jack
  • Steve – Intellogent
  • Charlie – Grocer Jack

15:20 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge Handicap

Steve likes the all-weather form of his selection, and that often translates well to Ascot. He’s in the right hands. Southern Voyage has been frustrating on his last two runs but before that looked good. He’s worth chancing on second start of the season at 11.0 win and place.

  • Tom – Southern Voyage
  • Steve – Pride Of Priory
  • Charlie – Southern Voyage

15:40 Newmarket – Jewsons Sweet Solera Stakes Group 3

Charlie was very impressed with Novakai on debut and she should step forward. He was against Lakota Sioux from the outset too who can look a little tricky. Too trappy for Steve and I.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Steve – No bet
  • Charlie – Novakai

15:55 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile Handicap

Montassib should relish the step up to a mile and looks a fair price at 4.0. He has the best form and should rate a bit higher than his current mark. Bopedro has run some solid races, argues Steve and will appreciate this test on the round course.

  • Tom – Montassib
  • Steve – Bopedro
  • Charlie – Montassib

16:30 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic Handicap

Frankie rides Sheer Rocks who Steve argues is way overpriced. His trainer is in better form than the start of the season and was a touch unlucky at Goodwood. I’m with Hamaki who looks set to appreciate the step up to a mile and a half. I’m not overly taken with the chances of the two currently ahead of him in the betting.

  • Tom – Hamaki
  • Steve – Sheer Rocks
  • Charlie – No bet

17:05 Ascot – Dubai Duty Free Shergar Sprint Handicap

Charlie is going back to the well with Corazon. She’s up in trip and a fair price at 15.0 win and place. I’ll chance Admiral D under Jo Mason. His form is rock solid and a stiff 6 should prove ideal.

  • Tom – Admiral D
  • Steve – No bet
  • Charlie – Corazon

Best Lays

  • Tom – Lay Orbaan 2.5 or less (15:35 Ascot)
  • Steve – Lay Oscula (15:35 Haydock) @ 2.75 or less
  • Charlie – Lay Lakota Sioux (15:40 Newmarket)

Best Bets

  • Tom – Grocer Jack (15:00 Haydock)
  • Steve – Super Superjack (14:45 Ascot)
  • Charlie – Grocer Jack (15:00 Haydock)

Best of luck!
