What are our podcast foursome backing at Ascot on Saturday? Tom Stanley reveals all

Fair to say that QIPCO British Champions Day hasn’t always delivered, but this Saturday does so in spades. Quality and a good quantity of it, particularly in the two highlights of the QEII and Champion Stakes. All six races from Ascot are covered by a stellar team below:

Long Distance Cup (13:25 Ascot)

Both Sam and Rixy are with Baron Samedi although Steve is adamant he won’t stay. Steve still thinks Stradivarius is overlooked whilst I’m siding with an unexposed stayer at a more than respectable price.

  • Tom – Berkshire Rocco
  • Sam – Trueshan / Baron Samedi
  • Rixy – Baron Samedi (win & place; betting without Trueshan)
  • Steve – Stradivarius

Champions Sprint Stakes (14:00 Ascot)

Again a couple of bigger prices for Rixy and I. Sam is confident about Wokingham winner Rohaan whilst Steve is with the Jersey winner Creative Force.

  • Tom – Vadream / Last Empire
  • Sam – Rohaan
  • Rixy – Brando (win and place) / Happy Romance (win and place)
  • Steve – Creative Force

Fillies & Mares Stakes (14:35 Ascot)

Nobody wants to be with or against Snowfall and I’m keen to take her out of the equation in the without market. Rixy is too but also wants his selection win and place if all eight show up. Sam has found an angle with the Team Valor runner whilst Steve is with the near outsider of the field.

  • Tom – Eshaada w/o Snowfall
  • Sam – Invite
  • Rixy – Albaflora (win and place; betting without Snowfall)
  • Steve – Lady Hayes (win and place)

Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (15:10 Ascot)

Lots of waffling here before Sam tells us Palace Pier wins and I agree. I do want a couple on side at massive prices though as this straight course can throw up a surprise. Rixy is with the chief challenger to the favourite whilst Steve thinks Oisin Murphy’s mount is the overpriced one.

  • Tom – Palace Pier / Mother Earth / Lord Glitters
  • Sam – Palace Pier
  • Rixy – Baaeed
  • Steve – Alcohol Free (win and place)

Champion Stakes (15:50 Ascot)

Adayar’s running in this makes it the most interesting race of the day. No one is going for him though. I’m with Mishriff, as is Rixy. Sam thinks the safest bet is last year’s winner whilst Steve is again Mr Value.

  • Tom – Mishriff
  • Sam – Addeybb
  • Rixy – Mishriff
  • Steve – Sealiway (win and place)

Balmoral Handicap (16:30 Ascot)

Steve looking bang at the top of the market this time. Rixy likes an Irish raider and Sam and I fancy the top weight is a big price, shortening all the time. All weather form translates well to the straight track at Ascot and for that reason I think Kenzai Warrior is interesting.

  • Tom – Sir Busker / Kenzai Warrior
  • Sam – Sir Busker
  • Rixy – Saltonstall (win and place)
  • Steve – Sunray Major

Champions Day Best Bets

  • Tom – Mishriff / Palace Pier double
  • Sam – Sir Busker (win and place)
  • Rixy – Brando (win and place)
  • Steve – Sealiway (win and place)

Best of luck!
