Well, it’s here! Finally, the Cheltenham Festival 2022 is upon us. Some smaller than expected fields on Day 1 but plenty of betting opportunities as you’d expect. We rattle through race by race and there are some different opinions to those voiced in our ante-post and handicap previews.

National Hunt Chase

  • Tom – Run Wild Fred
  • Natalie – Run Wild Fred
  • Steve – Stattler
  • Deasy – Run Wild Fred

Cheltenham Day 1 Best Lays

The key point here is being against the favourite given the nature of the race. Three of us are keen to lay Gaelic Warrior 4 places at 1.5. Steve is place laying Stormy Island given she has bled in the past and looks unpredictable.

  • Tom – Gaelic Warrior (place lay)
  • Natalie – Gaelic Warrior (place lay)
  • Steve – Stormy Island (place lay)
  • Deasy – Gaelic Warrior (place lay)

Cheltenham Day 1 Best Bets

I’m all out Run Wild Fred in a very winnable National Hunt Chase. Natalie is sticking with the Arkle favourite whilst Steve can’t believe there’s 23.0 available about Noble Yeats in the Ultima. Deasy is with Our Power in that same race.

  • Tom – Run Wild Fred (17:30)
  • Natalie – Edwardstone (14:10)
  • Steve – Noble Yeats (14:50)
  • Deasy – Our Power (14:50) (win/place)

Best of luck!
