Racing: Best Bets From Cheltenham Saturday

After more winners last week, can the racing podcast team keep their good form going? Here’s Tom Stanley with our Cheltenham tips…

This is where things really hot up over jumps. Cheltenham’s November meeting features some of the main UK protagonistse and it seems there are more Irish challengers than normal heading over.

The feature handicap is as competitive as you’d want and it doesn’t get much easier after that. We start with a less open contest – typical of a few British novice chases at the minute.

Saturday – Grade 2 Novices’ Chase (13:40 Cheltenham)

A disappointing turnout in many ways but the class act heads the betting. Nobody on the panel is taking him on but both Adele and Deasy think Captain Tom Cat is the chief danger and want to play him on the without the favourite market.

  • Tom No bet
  • Steve No bet
  • Adele – Captain Tom Cat (w/o fav)
  • Deasy – Captain Tom Cat (w/o fav)

Saturday – PP Gold Cup (14:15 Cheltenham)

Interestingly none of the team are siding with the top three or four in the betting as things stand. There are some notable runners on first starts for a new yard and a Grade 1 winner in here but bigger prices catch the eye with a few shouts for last year’s winner and for Manofthemountain.

  • Tom – Manofthemountain, Spiritofthegames
  • Steve – Galahad Quest
  • Adele – Midnight Shadow, Coole Cody (win & place)
  • Deasy – Nietzche, Manofthemountain, Coole Cody (all win & place)

Saturday – 3m Handicap Hurdle (14:50 Cheltenham)

Both of Fergal O’Brien’s runners are going up whilst Adele and I like Ian WIlliams’s mare who wasn’t beaten far at the track last time. I think she looks fairly treated.

  • Tom Dragon Bones (non-runner)
  • Steve – Onagatheringstorm
  • Adele Dragon Bones (non-runner)
  • Deasy Valentino Dancer (non-runner)

Saturday – 2m 5f Handicap Hurdle (15:25 Cheltenham)

Too trappy for me, this is full of could be anythings. Steve thinks Mackleduff has a good bit more to offer while Adele is small stakes on the best looking horse in the race. Deasy has a couple on side at fair prices, again small stakes given the nature of the race.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Steve – Mackelduff
  • Adele – Punxsutawney Phil
  • Deasy – Pyramid Place, Good Time Jonny (win & place)

Saturday Best Bets

  • Tom Dragon Bones (non-runner)
  • Steve – Zulu Dawn (15:17 Uttoxeter)
  • Adele Dragon Bones (non-runner)
  • Deasy – Nietzche (win & place)
