Tom Stanley is back to bring you our podcast’s best Wincanton and Sandown tips.

Eight races are covered in this week’s pod and whilst it’s not the most high-quality Saturday it is competitive enough with some decent prices going up.

The class comes in the form of the Grade 1 Tolworth and we have a short-priced favourite currently trading around 6.0 for the Supreme at the Festival.

Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle (14:25 Sandown)

Couple of shouts for the favourite though not necessarily from a betting perspective but plenty of excitement about seeing him back in action. Sam and I want to play this in the ‘without the favourite’ market. Shallwehaveonemore needs to settle but showed himself to have plenty of ability last time and should have some pace to help him relax here.

  • Tom – Shallwehaveonemore w/o favourite
  • Adele – Constitution Hill
  • Sam – Shallwehaveonemore w/o favourite
  • Natalie – Constitution Hill

Leonna Mayor Handicap Hurdle (13:30 Wincanton)

Little agreement here on selections and that’s the nature of this open race. Not much confidence either but Sam did give a good mention to Midnight Callisto at 7.0 at the time of recording who has cheekpieces on for the first time. I thought last time winner Pittsburgh could still be ahead of this mark.

  • Tom – Pittsburgh
  • Adele – Noble Savage
  • Sam – Midnight Callisto
  • Natalie – Planned Paradise

1m7f Handicap Chase (13:50 Sandown)

Decent race and my best bet of the day runs here, much to the amusement of the panel. Fair to say Gunsight Ridge doesn’t win for fun but he ran into a seriously good horse last time and I think the drop in trip will help. Natalie and Adele feel Numitor is far and away the safest option whilst Sam makes a strong case for outsider of the bunch Paddy’s Poem.

  • Tom – Gunsight Ridge
  • Adele – Numitor
  • Sam – Paddy’s Poem
  • Natalie – Numitor

Hatherleigh Handicap Chase (14:05 Wincanton)

Belle De Manech vs Grey Diamond as far as the panel have it. Grey Diamond has been running in stronger races for his in-form trainer. Sam is concerned that Belle De Manech was flattered last time but Natalie and I are sticking with her. Softish ground should help with this drop in trip and she loves the track.

  • Tom – Belle De Manech
  • Adele – Grey Diamond
  • Sam – Grey Diamond
  • Natalie – Belle De Manech

Montague Handicap Hurdle (14:40 Wincanton)

Both Adele and Natalie want Mister Sweets on side and Adele also makes a case for Golden Emblem at 11.0 at the time of recording. I thought Crossing The Bar was worth a nibble given he goes on the ground and stayed the trip last time. Sam feels Blairgowrie has done enough to suggest 112 is a fair opening mark but it’s not a race preview brimming with confidence.

  • Tom – Crossing The Bar
  • Adele – Mister Sweets & Golden Emblem
  • Sam – Blairgowrie
  • Natalie – Mister Sweets & Apple Rock (small)

Veterans’ Handicap Chase (15:00 Sandown)

Sam argues that Aso is the best horse in this and very much the one to beat. He also wants a last time out course and distance winner on-side. Nats is also with Aso and saves a mention for another horse who ran well here last time. I think Dashing Perk is the overpriced one on past form but he does need to improve on his latest effort whilst Adele is with 13-year-old Final Nudge.

  • Tom – Dashing Perk
  • Adele – Final Nudge
  • Sam – Aso & Wandrin Star
  • Natalie – Aso & Rolling Dylan

Kingwell Lodge Handicap Chase (15:15 Wincanton)

Natalie’s best bet lines up here in the form of Slate House who needs blinkers to bring about a good bit of improvement. He’s certainly well treated. Sam is with favourite Stolen Silver who he argues has the best form and is capable of giving weight away to the rest. I thought Killer Clown was worth another go. He has been disappointing but I think is better going this way round and has the tongue tie on for the first time.

  • Tom – Killer Clown
  • Adele – Mont Des Avaloirs
  • Sam – Stolen Silver
  • Natalie – Slate House

2m Handicap Hurdle (15:35 Sandown)

Both Adele and Sam are split between Hermes Boy and Volkovka with Sam slightly more in favour of the former and Adele the latter. Natalie and I are with a proven Sandown performer who was back in the winner’s enclosure last time.

  • Tom – Mack The Man
  • Adele – Volkovka
  • Sam – Hermes Boy & Volkovka (small saver)
  • Natalie – Mack The Man

Best Bets

  • Tom – Gunsight Ridge (13:50 Sandown)
  • Adele – Noble Savage (13:30 Wincanton)
  • Sam – Stolen Silver (15:15 Wincanton)
  • Natalie – Slate House (15:15 Wincanton)

Best of luck!
