Tom Stanley summarises our podcast team’s selections for the Welsh Grand National.

Three races covered for the 27th. Hopefully, all those put up in the Welsh National show up…we did record pre-declarations but that could mean we’ve unearthed the value!

We’ve left alone the Kempton action due to no decs but the Irish were all jocked up and ready to go pre-Christmas so we focussed on two Leopardstown Grade 1s initially.

PRC Chase (13:10 Leopardstown)

Well, Chacun Pour Soi is 1.5 at the time of recording but very difficult to oppose according to three of the panel. Adele had particularly good info on the nature of his injury last time, well worth listening to. Steve feels Envoi Allen is a bet back in trip, particularly with Chacun Pour Soi having something to prove after his Sandown run.

  • Tom – Chacun Pour Soi
  • Adele – Chacun Pour Soi
  • Donn – Chacun Pour Soi
  • Steve – Envoi Allen

Future Champs Nov Hurdle (13:45 Leopardstown)

Just Donn and Steve with selections here and they both go for Mighty Potter who just about heads the betting. Donn makes the point that, for all Largy Debut beat Kilcruit fair and square last time, Mighty Potter’s Royal Bond form is probably the best on offer.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Adele – No bet
  • Donn – Mighty Potter
  • Steve – Mighty Potter

Welsh National (14:50 Chepstow)

I’m with two Paul Nicholls horses, one pretty obvious after his Sandown win and another who has gone well in this before. Adele thinks last year’s winner is worth having on side whilst also suggesting the 2019 winner should be backed. Donn is keen on Sam Thomas’s horse Iwilldoit after his win at the track last time. And Steve is adamant that the Scottish National winner is a massive price, 17.0 at the time of recording.

  • Tom – Highland Hunter / Truckers Lodge
  • Adele – Secret Reprieve / Potters Corner (w/p)
  • Donn – Iwilldoit (w/p)
  • Steve – Mighty Thunder (w/p)

27th Dec Best Bets

  • Tom – Highland Hunter (14:50 Chepstow)
  • Adele – Cornerstone Lad (14:15 Wetherby)
  • Donn – Iwilldoit (w/p) (14:50 Chepstow)
  • Steve – Grey Diamond (13:05 Chepstow if he runs)

Best of luck!
