Saturday Racing Cheat Sheet From Newbury And Newmarket

3 min

It’s been a terrific week of punting from our podcast team. Host Tom Stanley reveals who the team are backing in Saturday’s ITV races!

Group 1 action on Saturday in the form of the Lockinge at Newbury. Palace Pier is the class act for all none of the panel make him a backable price at the time of recording. The without market is of particular interest for a few of us.

Al Rayyan Stakes (14:25 Newbury)

If Al Aasy drifts at all I think he’s a bet and Sam is of a similar opinion at the prices though a little keener than me. Steve and Deasy think the likely front runner could steal this.

  • Sam – Al Aasy
  • Steve – Thunderous
  • Deasy – Thunderous
  • Tom – No bet unless Al Aasy 2.25 or bigger

London Gold Cup (15:00 Newbury)

Typically won by a very good horse and Sam and I think Bay Bridge fits that bill. I make him my best bet. Deasy sees some value elsewhere.

  • Sam – Bay Bridge
  • Steve – Oz Legend
  • Deasy – Tambarodda / River Alwen
  • Tom – Bay Bridge BEST BET

6f Handicap (15:15 Newmarket)

Sam and Deasy like First Folio win and place for a trainer going well. Deasy and I are getting stuck into some double figure odds, mine mainly in the place market. Steve’s best bet lines up here at a fair price.

  • Sam – First Folio
  • Steve – Bickerstaffe BEST BET
  • Deasy – First Folio
  • Tom – Shalaa Asker

G1 Lockinge Stakes (15:35 Newbury)

Well worth using the without the favourite market if you don’t want to back Palace Pier but aren’t necessarily against him. Deasy and I are going down that route whilst Sam and Steve keen on a pair win and place, including Sam’s best bet.

  • Sam -Lope Y Fernandez BEST BET
  • Steve – My Oberon
  • Deasy – Top Rank w/o Palace Pier BEST BET
  • Tom – Century Dream & Safe Voyage w/o Palace Pier
