Tom Stanley outlines what he and Sam Turner are backing for Saturday’s ITV races

A lower-key weekend as far as the racing goes but in some ways a more interesting betting one. Certainly, the Ayr Gold and Silver Cups are excellent betting heats, particularly if you get the draw right. I really enjoyed this chat with Sam, though we disagree on a huge amount selections wise.

Doonside Cup (13:55 Ayr)

My reservation with Euchen Glen would be the ground, so I only want him onside if it eases a little. Sam is a little less concerned about conditions, and he’s also supporting one at a big price.

  • Tom – Euchen Glen if ‘firm’ is not in the going description.
  • Sam – Euchen Glen / Platinumcard

World Trophy (14:15 Newbury)

Good race and a difference of opinion. Khaadem is unexposed over the minimum trip, and I think he’s the best of these. Sam was taken with Tis Marvellous at Beverley last time, though and sticks with him. He also makes a valuable point about the draw.

  • Tom – Khaadem
  • Sam – Tis Marvellous

Ayr Silver Cup (14:30 Ayr)

Both looking at low numbers here, and I’ll probably end up backing Sam’s selection, too, to be honest. I’m going for Royal Scimitar in the first time blinkers.

  • Tom – Royal Scimitar
  • Sam – Magical Spirit

Legacy Cup (14:50 Newbury)

At 2.0, Al Aasy does look fairly priced and, though I’m officially sitting this one out, I think Sam’s trading angle is a good one. Al Aasy will almost certainly trade shorter in the run.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Sam – Al Aasy (trade)

Firth Of Clyde (15:05 Ayr)

I like the Irish raider here for all I’m not mad about her draw. Sam thinks she’s beatable and opts for one win and place at a more attractive price. Small stakes all around.

  • Tom – Head Mistress
  • Sam – Hellomydarlin

DDF Handicap (15:25 Newbury)

Again not brimming with confidence here, but Sam thinks the favourite is opposable, having had a few runs in quick succession. I tend to agree, and fancy Mo’assess is the overpriced one.

  • Tom – Mo’assess
  • Sam – King Of Clubs

Ayr Gold Cup (15:40 Ayr)

We both want the favourite onside for all he may not be ideally drawn. He looks the class act. And we’re both putting up another win and place from further down the betting. For what it’s worth, it looks like the majority of the pace is high.

  • Tom – Great Ambassador / Ostilio
  • Sam – Volatile Analyst small win and place / Great Ambassador

Mill Reef (16:00 Newbury)

Both against the favourite, and I’m with Fearby having another go over 6 furlongs. Sam has three on side at reasonable prices.

  • Tom – Fearby
  • Sam – Wings Of War/Hierachy small win and place both – positive Manaccan too

1m Handicap (16:15 Ayr)

Consensus here, and it’s that Dance Fever is overpriced and well worth supporting. He’s my best bet of the day.

  • Tom – Dance Fever
  • Sam – Dance Fever

Best Bets

  • Tom – Dance Fever
  • Sam – Spanish Star (Newbury, 13:40) / Fox Vardy (Newbury, 17:05)
