Tom Stanley reveals what he, Adele Mulrennan & Steve Jones are backing on Saturday kicking off with the Sprint Cup in Haydock

We start with the feature and the only Group 1 of the weekend. It looks a strong, if not superb renewal. For what it’s worth I make Starman best bet material back over his preferred trip and on quick ground. Keep an eye out for two podcasts coming your way next week, previewing the pick of the action from Doncaster and Irish Champions Weekend.

Sprint Cup (15:30 Haydock)

Adele and Steve don’t quite make Starman a backable price so I’m on my own there. Adele likes one at a big price and I agree that Emaraaty Ana is overpriced while Steve is win and place on Art Power.

  • Tom – Starman / Emaraaty Ana place
  • Adele – Emaraaty Ana place
  • Steve – Art Power (W/P)

Superior Mile (13:45 Haydock)

Can’t quite see a bet here for all Lord Glitters should really take this at the weights. That’s what Adele thinks whilst Steve is with My Oberon in first-time blinkers.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Adele – Lord Glitters
  • Steve – My Oberon

1m 6f Handicap (14:20 Haydock)

Both Adele and Steve are with the Melrose winner at the top of the betting. I like Praiano at the prices who ran better than the bare result last time at Sandown.

  • Tom – Praiano
  • Adele – Valley Forge
  • Steve – Valley Forge

September Stakes (14:40 Kempton)

Adele sitting this one out with a short priced favourite at the top of the betting. Steve and I make Hukum a bet here though I think 2.0 could shorten.

  • Tom – Hukum
  • Adele – No bet
  • Steve – Hukum

Bet Now

Old Borough Cup (14:55 Haydock)

Steve makes the point there’s not much pace on here and so goes for The Trader. I agree on the pace angle and go for the other Johnston horse. Adele likes a couple including one ridden by a claimer and makes the point that they have a decent record in this.

  • Tom – Hochfeld
  • Adele – Noble Masquerade / Allright Sunshine place
  • Steve – The Trader

Lavazza Stakes (15:10 Ascot)

Tricky but Wahraan looks a bet to me. Steve votes for Candleford on handicap debut and Adele likes the look of William Haggas’s other runner.

  • Tom – Wahraan
  • Adele – Chalk Stream
  • Steve – Candleford

London Mile Final (15:15 Kempton)

Both Steve and I are with Tahitian Prince who has an excellent record here. Adele votes for another pair who like the track. Thunderclap looks very progressive and she also gives Sharla the nod at 26.0 at the time of recording.

  • Tom – Tahitian Prince
  • Adele – Thunderclap / Sharla w/p
  • Steve – Tahitian Prince

7f Handicap (15:45 Ascot)

Three different views again. Not masses of pace on and that’s why Steve wants Maxi Boy on side. Adele is small stakes with the favourite whilst I probably have the strongest opinion here in making Top Secret a good bet having challenged on the worst part of the track at Newbury last time.

  • Tom – Top Secret
  • Adele – Via Serendipity
  • Steve – Maxi Boy

Weekend Best Bets

  • Tom – Starman (15:30 Haydock)
  • Adele – Mossbawn (15:25 Thirsk)
  • Steve – Valley Forge (14:20 Haydock)
