Racing: Podcast Best Bets From Newbury, Kelso & Doncaster

The penultimate weekend of racing before Cheltenham but there is still some great jumps action as Tom Stanley goes through below.

Some decent punting heats this weekend between three tracks. It’s modest racing in truth but Cheltenham is just around the corner so we expectedly have a little drop in grade and excitement.

There’s also the possibility that Kelso’s Morebattle winner will head to the Festival as was the case last year and that race in particular (a richer race than the County Hurdle) is a very strong contest.

Veterans’ Handicap Chase (13:15 Newbury)

I’m sitting this one out. I feel the race hinges around Aso – he’s the most likely winner but I can’t quite make myself back him. Steve and Adele are more confident and make him the one to beat and a bet at the prices.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Adele – Aso (non-runner)
  • Steve – Aso (non-runner)

Premier Novices’ Hurdle (13:32 Kelso)

We’re all against the favourite, just with three different horses. North Lodge was a winner at Cheltenham last time whilst my selection is also unbeaten and worth a go up in grade. Steve is looking a little further down the betting.

  • Tom – Sjolokjack
  • Adele – North Lodge
  • Steve – Datsalrightgino

Greatwood Gold Cup (13:50 Newbury)

Steve thinks Farinet should be favourite and I have to agree with him. I’m more taken with the price about Kildisart though who may be using this as a Grand National prep but he’s too well treated to leave alone. Adele wants a Paul Nicholls horse on-side given his solid record in this.

  • Tom – Kildisart
  • Adele – Tamaroc Du Mathan
  • Steve – Farinet

2m5f Handicap Hurdle (14:05 Kelso)

I’m following Adele in here with Hart Of Steel who looks very solid against the favourite. Steve is again looking a little further down the betting with a horse that goes well here.

  • Tom – Hart Of Steel (non-runner)
  • Adele – Hart Of Steel (non-runner)
  • Steve – Elvis Mail

Bet Now

Mares Novices Hurdle (14:20 Doncaster)

Adele is with the Skelton mare at the top of the market. She looks like she’ll get the trip but she’s yet to prove it and I’d rather focus elsewhere. Steve thinks Miss Fairfax is the safer bet.

  • Tom – So Said I
  • Adele – Getatonic
  • Steve – Miss Fairfax

Premier Chase (14:40 Kelso)

I’m with Steve here on strong stayer Big River. He comes here in decent form and should have things run to suit. Adele is very sweet on Windsor Avenue who’s form has been franked from last time and he’s a bigger price than expected.

  • Tom – Big River
  • Adele – Windsor Avenue
  • Steve – Big River

2m Handicap Chase (14:55 Doncaster)

Steve thinks The Big Bite is worth a play at the top of the market whilst Adele is with the dropping in grade Malystic having had a wind op. I like Cheddleton back at two miles and hopefully he’s allowed to lead them along.

  • Tom – Cheddleton
  • Adele – Malystic
  • Steve – The Big Bite

Morebattle Hurdle (15:15 Kelso)

Great renewal and I’m with the Irish raider who’s Irish form from last time is rock solid. Adele makes a strong case for a former Champion Hurdle winner whilst Steve is looking to play the win and place market about Balko Saint at decent odds.

  • Tom – Autumn Evening
  • Adele – Buveur D’Air
  • Steve – Balko Saint (w/p)

Grimthorpe Handicap Chase (15:30 Doncaster)

Both Steve and Adele think Powerstown Park fits the bill after his win last time for a trainer having an excellent season. Mister Malarkey’s new trainer is having a good time of it too and I’ll chance him off an absence.

  • Tom – Mister Malarkey
  • Adele – Powerstown Park (non-runner)
  • Steve – Powerstown Park (non-runner)

Best Lays

  • Tom – Lay Get a Tonic – if odds on (14:20 Doncaster)
  • Adele – Lay Le Milos (15:30 Doncaster)
  • Steve – Place Lay Itchy Feet – two places (14:40 Kelso)

Best Bets

  • Tom – Hart Of Steel (non-runner)
  • Adele – Windsor Avenue (14:40 Kelso)
  • Steve – Farinet (13:50 Newbury)
