Tom Stanley is here to guide you through the final day of the York Dante Festival, as well as Newbury Saturday.

Tricky couple cards are previewed below between York and Newbury.

No doubt about the feature in the form of the Al Shaqab Lockinge and it’s a race where I think you can take a view. Baeed at 1.5 might just be opposable for some on his first start of the season.

We begin with ITV action from York on Friday.

13:35 Newbury Saturday – Carnarvon Stakes

Quite like a lowish draw here and that points to Hierarchy. He’s quick and ran a good race at Ascot on reappearance. Donn is with Cadamosto at 7.0 now back over 6 furlongs.

  • Tom – Hierarchy
  • Donn – Cadamosto
  • Natalie – Hierarchy & Ribhi (w/p)
  • Deasy – Hierarchy

14:10 Newbury Saturday – Al Rayyan Stakes

Both Deasy and Natalie are adamant that Eshaada is the best of these off the back of her Champions Day win. Donn likes Without A Fight who ran two good races out in Dubai. I think this could be the time to catch the unpredictable Ilaraab.

  • Tom – Ilaraab
  • Donn – Without A Fight
  • Natalie – Eshaada
  • Deasy – Eshaada

14:45 Newbury Saturday – London Gold Cup

Strong view here that La Pulga is overpriced at 26.0 for a yard with a good record in this. Natalie thinks Zoom is the one at 17.0. Donn feels Red Vineyard can add to his Sandown win last time at 11.0 whilst Deasy is looking to likely favourite Israr (6.0).

  • Tom – La Pulga
  • Donn – Red Vineyard
  • Natalie – Zoom
  • Deasy – Israr

15:20 Newbury Saturday – Lockinge Stakes

The consensus here is the favourite won’t be beaten but I do think he’s short. There’s no guaranteed pace and Baeed can take a grip. I think on his first start of the year, and for a horse who might want further, there’s enough reason to lay him at 1.5. I think Real World is the value. Natalie thinks he’ll finish second to the favourite whilst Donn and Deasy are with Mother Earth to fill that spot.

  • Tom – Real World (w/p), w/o fav
  • Donn – No bet (Mother Earth if forced)
  • Natalie – Baeed wins, Real World second
  • Deasy – Baeed win, Mother Earth second

Best Lays

  • Tom – Lay Baeed at 1.5 or less (15:20 Newbury Sat)
  • Donn – No lay
  • Natalie – No lay
  • Deasy – Place Lay Rogue Bear (3 places) at 2.25 or less (15:00 York Fri)

Best Bets

  • Tom – Rogue Bear (15:00 York Fri)
  • Donn – Al Qareem (16:10 York Fri)
  • Natalie – Search For A Song (15:35 York Fri)
  • Deasy – Eshaada (14:10 Newbury Sat) & Baeed (15:20 Newbury Sat) double

13:50 York Friday – British EBF Marygate Fillies’ Stakes

The draw could play a part here if we see a repeat of the opening sprint handicap on the opening day where it paid to be high. That said, yesterday’s sprint unfolded down the middle. I’m with Carmela who looked good on debut, as did most of these. Donn thinks Miami Girl, drawn the other side, is the one to be on.

  • Tom – Carmela
  • Donn – Miami Girl
  • Natalie – Carmela and a mention to Yahsat
  • Deasy – Daytona Lady

14:25 York Friday – Oaks Farm Stables Fillies’ Stakes

Hard to argue Grande Dame is value but she has the profile for this. The question is whether or not she can improve past the 100 rated filly Perfect News. Most of us think she can but Donn isn’t so sure.

  • Tom – Grande Dame
  • Donn – Perfect News
  • Natalie – Grande Dame
  • Deasy – Grande Dame

15:00 York Friday – 1m2f Handicap

Best bet of the day for me here in the form of Rogue Bear. He should love the step up in trip and I think he’s still a good bit ahead of his mark. Deasy isn’t sure he’ll stay and wants to lay him a place. He’s with Parachute whilst Natalie think the value lies with Belloccio.

  • Tom – Rogue Bear
  • Donn – Rogue Bear
  • Natalie – Belloccio
  • Deasy – Parachute

15:35 York Friday – Yorkshire Cup Stakes

Too trappy for me. Donn and Natalie want Search For A Song onside against the favourite. She’s very good on her day and they make her the value against Stradivarius who isn’t quite the force of old. Deasy is sticking with the favourite though who loves it here and can be backed at 2.0.

  • Tom – No bet
  • Donn – Search For A Song
  • Natalie – Search For A Song
  • Deasy – Stradivarius

16:10 York Friday – 1m4f Handicap

Trappy handicap. Deasy and I have both Godolphin horses covered between the two of us whilst Donn and Natalie are fairly strong on Al Qareem as the value.

  • Tom – Wild Crusade
  • Donn – Al Qareem
  • Natalie – Al Qareem
  • Deasy – New Comedy / Pons Aelius
