Paddy Brennan scores big for IJF with Topofthegame bet placed at the Matchbook sponsored Cheltenham Preview Evening at Sandown’s Imperial Cup Day.

Paddy Brennan is top of the judges after winning a four-figure sum for the Injured Jockeys Fund from his charity bet on Topofthegame at the Cheltenham Festival.

Topofthegame, who won a thrilling renewal of the RSA Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, was picked out by Brennan as his best bet of the week at the Matchbook sponsored Cheltenham Preview Evening at Sandown.

He was speaking as part of an all-star panel including Nicky Henderson, Alan King and Mick Fitzgerald at the free-to-attend event, which takes place following Matchbook Imperial Cup Day at Sandown each year.

His £250 bet won at a price of 5.0 netting £1,000 profit and a £1,250 total donation to the Injured Jockeys Fund, which is a cause championed by Matchbook as part of its commitment to UK and Irish racing.

Jockey Harry Cobden celebrates after winning the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase on Topofthegame.

“The Imperial Cup at Sandown is one of the highlights of our sponsorship calendar along with supporting the Injured Jockeys Fund in advance of the Festival,” Anna Kerr, head of PR and sponsorships at Matchbook, said.

“Paddy Brennan was the only one to hit the frame this year and we are delighted to be making a donation of £1,250,” Kerr said.

The full list of bets placed on the night were:

  • Nicky Henderson – Epatante (Mares Novice)
  • Alan King – Battleoverdoyen (Ballymore)
  • Paddy Brennan – Top Of The Game (RSA)
  • Mick Fitzgerald – Sir Erec (Triumph)
