Super Saturday Racing Selections From Tom Stanley and Steve Jones

Super Saturday in racing terms though it could be called Mad Saturday with the amount of top racing up and down the country.

This is traditionally the day where trainers struggle for jockeys with so much going on.

Steve and I have found a mix of the highest quality and most open races to have a go at. The handicaps are tough but appealing from a betting perspective, and the July Cup is one of the most competitive for some time.

July Cup (16:25 Newmarket)

Steve fancies Dragon Symbol to get his head in front here with plenty about the race likely to suit. I’m struggling to split those at the top of the market, instead opting to look for some horses to place from a good way down the betting. I think it could pay to be drawn high.

  • Steve – Dragon Symbol
  • Tom – Glorious Journey / Miss Amulet

Summer Mile (15:00 Ascot)

Steve’s best bet lines up here in the form of Top Rank. I can see that but am opting for the bigger price about the newly gelded Al Suhail. He has serious talent if he can sort his head out.

  • Steve – Top Rank BEST BET
  • Tom – Al Suhail

Superlative Stakes (15:15 Newmarket)

Nothing from me here, but Steve is sweet enough on the Godolphin horse who made a big impression on debut. He was backed as if defeat was out of the question that day.

  • Steve – Native Trail
  • Tom – no bet

5f Handicap (15:35 Ascot)

Neither of us full of confidence about this tricky race, with selections at 12.0 and 19.0 at the time of recording. Boundless Power is progressive and will appreciate the cut in the ground whilst my selection goes very well here and is fairly treated on his best form.

  • Steve – Boundless Power
  • Tom – Blue De Vega

Bunbury Cup (15:50 Newmarket)

Both of us think it should pay to be handy here, given an apparent lack of front runners. On A Session (34.0) has the hood on for the first time but does like to get on with it, and my two are normally ridden forward.

  • Steve – On A Session
  • Tom – National League / Shine So Bright

John Smith’s Cup (16:05 York)

Steve adamant he wants a horse onside who has course form, and Surrey Pride fits that bill. I’ll have a couple running for me, both who have gone well here before and who shouldn’t get too far back.

  • Steve – Surrey Pride
  • Tom – Hartswood / Fishable
