Tom Stanley is here to summarise the Podcast Best Bets for Aintree Thursday from our own award-nominated tipster Micheál Deasy, Declan Rix from At The Races and Racing TV’s Donn McClean.
It’s difficult to argue we are blessed with the strongest Grade 1s over the next few days but they are competitive, interesting betting heats by and large and some interesting tactical affairs.
The ground will be key as there are a couple of weather fronts that may or may not hit Aintree! Consensus is good to soft at best as they don’t tend to be shy on the watering front for this meeting given Saturday’s feature.
We’ll be back at 09:00 on Friday morning for our Grand National preview so don’t miss it!
This is a good one…

Aintree Thursday 13:45 – Manifesto Novices Chase
Having not been a Pic D’Orhy fan all year I’m now with him. Deasy too who suggests he’s simply too good for these. Rixy and Donn think this could set up for War Lord though, who’s the bigger price of the two.
- Tom – Pic D’Orhy
- Rixy – War Lord
- Donn – War Lord
- Deasy – Pic D’Orhy
Aintree Thursday 14:20 – Juvenile Hurdle
Rixy and Donn in agreement again and both feel Brazil can make the successful transition to Grade 1 company. Same colours but a bigger price for Deasy’s selection whilst I am again with the favourite who boasts far and away the best form.
- Tom – Pied Piper
- Rixy – Brazil
- Donn – Brazil
- Deasy – Petit Tonnerre (w/p)
Aintree Thursday 14:55 – Aintree Bowl
Deasy is with Kemboy who won this a few years ago and skipped Cheltenham this year for a reason. Rixy and Donn feel this test will really suit Eldorado Allen who is perhaps a touch underestimated. I think Protektorat has the best form off the back of his Gold Cup run – he might have been second with a better jump at the last.
- Tom – Protektorat
- Rixy – Eldorado Allen
- Donn – Eldorado Allen
- Deasy – Kemboy

Aintree Thursday 15:30 – Aintree Hurdle
Not the strongest Grade 1 and nobody is siding with Epatante at the prices. I’ll chance Glory And Fortune up in trip and Rixy is with Zanahiyr with a similar angle. Donn and Deasy are with the proven performer at the distance and course winner Brewin’upastorm.
- Tom – Glory And Fortune
- Rixy – Zanahiyr
- Donn – Brewin’upastorm
- Deasy – Brewin’upastorm (w/p)
Aintree Thursday 16:40 – Red Rum Handicap Chase
Team Before Midnight at 10.0 at the time of recording. Donn makes the point you tend to have to be up with the pace in this and the selection will certainly not be far away. I also want Gunsight Ridge on side given his form and the fact he’s had a break after two hard races.
- Tom – Before Midnight / Gunsight Ridge
- Rixy – Before Midnight
- Donn – Before Midnight
- Deasy – Before Midnight
Aintree Thursday Best Lays
- Tom – No lay
- Rixy – No lay
- Donn – No lay
- Deasy – Lay Pied Piper
Aintree Thursday Best Bets
- Tom – Gunsight Ridge (w/p)
- Rixy – War Lord
- Donn – Brazil
- Deasy – Pic D’orhy
Best of luck!
