Horse Racing Podcast Best Bets From Ascot and Haydock

Tom Stanley is here to guide you through ITV Racing from Ascot and Haydock.

A light weekend on quantity but it’s still a Grade 1 weekend with a decent looking renewal of the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. The other five are all fair betting heats too – all handicaps and good sized fields.

Howden Long Walk Hurdle (14:25 Ascot)

The only agreement here is that Buzz is too short at 3.0 at the time of recording. He could be the best of these and may love the trip but there are enough unknowns to oppose at the top of the betting. Steve thinks Thyme Hill should be favourite and also wants Paisley Park on-side at 11.0. Deasy and I are with Thomas Darby at the same price.

  • Steve – Thyme Hill (win) Paisley Park (win/place)
  • Tom – Thomas Darby
  • Deasy – Thomas Darby (w/p) (11.0)

2m3f Howden Handicap Chase (13:50 Ascot)

Open race and a difference of opinions. Deasy has a couple in his slip with preference for Guy. Steve thinks Sully D’Oc AA is the most solid now running over a more preferable trip. I’m with Dolos now dropped five pounds for his run last time and he likes the track. I like Diego Du Charmil too but Dolos is double the price.

  • Steve – Sully D’Oc AA
  • Tom – Dolos
  • Deasy – Guy (6.5) or Knight In Dubai (7.0)

2m3f Handicap Hurdle (14:05 Haydock)

Both Deasy and Steve are with Stellar Magic here at 6.0 at the time of recording. His Taunton novice form is very strong and he had excuses last time having chipped a knee. I think Boss Man Fred is worth a play on the ‘Dan Skelton off an absence’ angle – very much a price selection.

  • Steve – Stellar Magic
  • Tom – Boss Man Fred
  • Deasy – Stellar Magic (6.0)

Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase 3m1f (14:40 Haydock)

Steve is wary of the price about his selection but does think he’s the right favourite and fancies Remastered would have won if standing up at Newbury. Deasy and I are with Enqarde who was going well in this when unseating last year. He should come on for his run last time and jumped left so may be better back this way round.

  • Steve – Remastered
  • Tom – Enqarde
  • Deasy – Enqarde (w/p) Acey Milan (w/p)

Howden Silver Cup Handicap Chase 3m (15:00 Ascot)

A JP fest for Steve with Phoenix Way and Regal Encore, who loves it here. Deasy makes a case for Annsam who should attack this and is 9.0 at the time of recording. My best bet of the day is Grand Sancy for all Steve thinks I’m mad. He’d have been second but for fluffing the last at Newbury and I think three miles will bring out the best in him.

  • Steve – Phoenix Way (w/p) Regal Encore (w/p)
  • Tom – Grand Sancy
  • Deasy – Annsam

Handicap Hurdle 1m 7½f (15:35 Ascot)

Steve makes a strong case for Mack The Man at 19.0 at the time of recording who should get the strong pace he needs. A strong pace should also suit my selection Tritonic who is fairly treated and he could be better back right-handed. Deasy argues Irish raider Drop The Anchor is overpriced and also wants a win saver on the progressive Samarrive.

  • Steve – Mack The Man (w/p) (non-runner)
  • Tom – Tritonic
  • Deasy – Drop The Anchor (w/p) Samarrive

Best Bets

  • Steve – Sully D’Oc – 13:50 Ascot
  • Tom – Grand Sancy – 15:00 Ascot
  • Deasy – Thomas Darby (w/p)- 14:25 Ascot

Best of luck!
