A trio this week of Tom Stanley, Donn McClean and Steve Jones. Here’s Tom to summarise the tips covering Beverley, Haydock and Chester…
A modest week as we build up to another Classic weekend next week (join us Thursday 12:30 for our Cazoo Derby and Oaks special). The best lays have been flying of late but sadly none going up today.
Donn McClean returns and he’s landed two of his last four best bets at 5.0 and 5.5 (Industry SP). While Steve Jones is back after a couple of decent priced winners last week (Whoputfiftyinyou at 7.0 and Valley Forge at 5.0).

13:45 Haydock – Achilles Stakes
Donn argues Dragon Symbol is comfortably the best horse in the race and is a bet now back over the minimum trip. He let Steve down last time though so he’s looking elsewhere. I make Atalis Bay a small win and place bet on second start for Robert Cowell.
- Tom – Atalis Bay (w/p)
- Steve – King Of Stars (w/p)
- Donn – Dragon Symbol
14:05 Beverley – Hilary Needler Trophy Fillies’ Conditions Stakes
Donn and I agree that favourite Absolutelyflawless will be tough to beat. She’s two from two and did well in the circumstances at Chester. Steve thinks Distinguished Lady is a little overlooked as she’s not unbeaten but showed plenty in a good race last time.
- Tom – Absolutelyflawless
- Steve – Distinguished Lady
- Donn – Absolutelyflawless
14:20 Haydock – 1m4f Handicap
Steve and Donn think Mahrajaan should be favourite here. He’s lightly raced and the team couldn’t be in better form. I don’t disagree but feel safer trading State Of Bliss who should go forward and shorten a good bit.
- Tom – State Of Bliss trade (current 14.0)
- Steve – Mahrajaan
- Donn – Mahrajaan
14:40 Beverley – 7 ½ f Handicap
Donn is with Percy’s Lad who was good value for the win last time for all it was a messy race in behind him. I’m with Blue For You who might be fairly treated on first start in Britain, small stakes mind.
- Tom – Blue For You (w/p)
- Steve – Flame Of Freedom (w/p)
- Donn – Percy’s Lad
14:55 Haydock – Pinnacle Stakes
Steve makes a decent case for Darlectable You having got off the mark last time. Her form stacks up and he thinks she’s overpriced back up in grade. Donn’s bet of the day runs here in the form of Climate who he feels is comfortably best in the race and the one to beat.
- Tom – No bet
- Steve – Darlectable You (w/p)
- Donn – Climate
Bet Now
15:15 Beverley – Two Year Old Trophy Conditions Stakes
Steve’s best bet lining up here in the form of Chateau who shaped well when beaten on debut. I thought Whistle And Flute was the right favourite and just about a bet at around 3.0 whilst Donn is with Hamilton winner Jm Jungle.
- Tom – Whistle And Flute
- Steve – Chateau
- Donn – Jm Jungle
15:30 Haydock – John Of Gaunt Stakes
My bet of the day is Kinross who has everything in his favour. Best form and this trip at this track should be ideal. Laneqash cost me a few times last year but Steve thinks fresh is the time to catch him and he’s a fair price at 9.0.
- Tom – Kinross
- Steve – Laneqash
- Donn – Kinross
15:45 Chester – ICM Stellar Sports Handicap
Hopefully Oh This Is Us can make use of his falling mark as he’s well treated and goes well here. Donn thinks Boardman is the right horse at the head of the betting.
- Tom – Oh This Is Us
- Steve – Oh This Is Us
- Donn – Boardman
15:50 Beverley – 1m4f Handicap
No market was really formed prior to previewing this so it’s small stakes all around!
- Tom – No bet
- Steve – Achnamara
- Donn – Noonie (if pushed)
Best Bets
- Tom – Kinross (15:30 Haydock)
- Steve – Chateau (15:15 Beverley)
- Donn – Climate (14:55 Haydock)
Best of luck!
