Tom Stanley assembled a stellar podcast line-up with the return of ITV’s Adele Mulrennan joining Charlie Poste and Steve Jones for a look at a busy Saturday of flat action.
Nine races on the agenda this week starting with the Irish 2000 Guineas.
Fair to say it’s not the most inspiring betting heat but plenty of selections are going up as we progress.
And we welcome back Adele Mulrennan this week who was in fine form last time she joined us.

15:20 Curragh – Irish 2000 Guineas
Ultimately no one is out to oppose the favourite and Adele makes him a bet at 1.4. I think the draw is interesting here as he could find himself tucked away on the rail. I think he’ll trade bigger in the run and that could be the way to play it.
- Tom – Native Trail will trade bigger in run
- Adele – Native Trail
- Steve – Native Trail (no bet)
- Charlie – Native Trail
13:45 Goodwood – Harroways Handicap
Adele is pretty sweet on Evocative Spark for all he’s not ideally drawn. My bet of the day runs here in the form of Bosh. He definitely looks well treated and I fancy he’ll like seven furlongs round here. Charlie is with 13.0 shot War In Heaven for a yard that look like they are back firing.
- Tom – Bosh (w/p)
- Adele – Evocative Spark
- Steve – Alotaibi (non-runner)
- Charlie – War In Heaven (w/p)
14:00 Haydock – Hell Nook Handicap
Adele makes a good point about the weather at Haydock as they might get some rain Friday and that won’t suit the favourite. She is with Just Hubert in the place market whilst Steve likes Valley Forge on second start this season.
- Tom – Bandinelli
- Adele – Just Hubert (place), Bandinelli lay (watch weather)
- Steve – Valley Forge (w/p)
- Charlie – Alright Sunshine (w/p)
14:15 Goodwood – Festival Stakes
This looks trappy and I can’t quite work it out. Adele likes last year’s winner whilst Charlie is giving another chance to Move In Time who disappointed plenty of us last time. Steve thinks West End Charmer will have the run of this.
- Tom – No bet
- Adele – Stormy Antarctic
- Steve – West End Charmer
- Charlie – Movin Time
14:35 Haydock – Silver Bowl Handicap
Mighty Ulysses is hard to oppose given his Group 1 entry and he’s the panel pick at a current 2.5. A few going up win and place at bigger prices though, namely Whoputfiftyinyou at 11.0 and Spirit Catcher at 13.0.
- Tom – Mighty Ulysses / Whoputfiftyinyou
- Adele – Mighty Ulysses / Spirit Catcher (place)
- Steve – Whoputfiftyinyou
- Charlie – Mighty Ulysses
Bet Now
14:55 York – 5f Handicap
Steve thinks course and distance lover Copper Knight is a massive price at a current 15.0 and that’s hard to argue with. I think the track should really suit Night On Earth for some shrewd operators whilst Adle is with Sir Titus at 10.0 on second start for his new yard.
- Tom – Night On Earth
- Adele – Sir Titus
- Steve – Copper Knight (w/p)
- Charlie – No bet
15:10 Haydock – Sandy Lane Stakes
The consensus here is that Go Bears Go should be the outright favourite (currently joint at 2.5). He has the best juvenile form and proved he can cut it as a 3-year-old last time. Adele is looking lower in the market and gives a particular mention to Gis A Sub at 26.0.
- Tom – Go Bears Go
- Adele – Flaming Rib, mention for Gis A Sub
- Steve – Go Bears Go
- Charlie – Go Bears Go
15:30 York – Bronte Cup Fillies’ Stakes
Not the best heat for strong opinions but I make last year’s second a bet. She should have the run of the race and provide an in-running trading option. Both Charlie and Steve are with Silence Please back over a more suitable trip.
- Tom – Urban Artist
- Adele – No bet
- Steve – Silence Please
- Charlie – Silence Please
15:45 Haydock – Temple Stakes
A division of opinion over the favourite. I think she’s a lay at 2.5 on the first start of the year away from her favoured York. Adele suggests it’s not the strongest of races though and thinks she’s too good not to back. Steve and Charlie are perhaps sensibly staying away from an opinion at the top of the market.
- Tom – Lay Winter Power
- Adele – Winter Power
- Steve – Last Crusader (w/p)
- Charlie – Kings Lynn (place)
Best Lays
- Tom – Lay Winter Power (15:45 Haydock)
- Adele – Lay Bandinelli (14:00 Haydock)
- Steve – Lay Crimson King at 2.5 (19:30 Stratford)
- Charlie – Lay Lysander if 2.0 (15:20 Goodwood Friday)
Best Bets
- Tom – Bosh w/p (13:45 Goodwood)
- Adele – Eddie’s Boy (15:03 Musselburgh)
- Steve – Go Bears Go (15:10 Haydock)
- Charlie – Mighty Ulysses (14:35 Haydock)
Best of luck!
