A sneak peek at what our podcast team are backing for the Cambridgeshire and Saturday’s other feature races from Newmarket.
The biggest field size of the year in the Cambridgeshire doesn’t make things easy, and that comes after the two top-level juvenile sprints.
The most interesting aspect of the two Group 1s is that this year the stalls are central as opposed to stands side, making for fairer racing without the dive for the rail.
However, some strange races unfolded on Thursday and made things less easy to predict. I hope we see a single group of runners as much as possible
Royal Lodge (13:50 Newmarket)
I liked what Coroebus did last time and hope he turns out the best of these, for all it’s not a strong shout. Steve has found one at 17.0 at the time of recording and Donn thinks the Acomb winner is still underestimated.
- Tom – Coroebus
- Steve – Seattle King
- Donn – Royal Patronage
Cheveley Park (14:25 Newmarket)
Best bet material here in the Irish raider. She looks a class apart and Donn really fleshes out the case for Sacred Bridge. Steve is going after the bigger prices again and thinks Desert Dreamer is worth another chance having been unlucky to date.
- Tom – Sacred Bridge
- Steve – Desert Dreamer
- Donn – Sacred Bridge

Middle Park (15:00 Newmarket)
I’m again with the favourite though not as strongly as the previous race. I’m glad the stalls are in the middle for his run style. Donn’s turn to get stuck into the bigger prices whilst Steve likes the chief Irish raider.
- Tom – Perfect Power
- Steve – Dr Zempf
- Donn – Caturra
Cambridgeshire Handicap (15:40 Newmarket)
Anyone’s guess! Either way Steve and I think the York form is the strongest. Donn digs out one at 29.0 at the time of recording and I want an Irish horse running for me in the form of Raise You.
- Tom – Magical Morning / Raise You
- Steve – Astro King
- Donn – Lucander win & place
Saturday Best Bets
- Tom – Sacred Bridge
- Steve – Dr Zempf
- Donn – Lucander ew
